Frequently Asked Questions
What is VoIP?
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), also called IP telephony, is a method and group of technologies for voice calls, the delivery of voice communication sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet. Axion provides a hosted VoIP service which means the only equipment required on-site is VoIP capable phones and an internet connection.
What are the benefits of a Hosted VoIP service?
Axion VoIP PBXs (Private Branch Exchange) run on dedicated hardware in Data Centers across the US. This means your phone system is not reliant on power and internet to your business's physical location. Power and internet outages will prevent calls from reaching your phones, but your phone numbers will remain reachable, voicemail messages can still be left, and call forwarding can be enabled so callers can reach you through other voice services such as cell phones. Each customer account is provided with a primary PBX in one data center and a backup PBX in an alternate data center to which call traffic can be redirected in the event of an outage in the primary data center.
Can I keep my current phone numbers?
Yes. Axion can "port" your phone numbers from your current telephone service provider. A phone number port request will be submitted with Axion's upstream Tier 1 carrier who will work with your current provider's carrier to transfer service.
Can I use the phones I currently have in my office?
If you currently use a VoIP phone system, your phones will likely be compatible with Axion's service (not all features may be available with some brand phones). Analog devices can be used with a VoIP system but require an analog adapter that will connect to Axion's service and convert the calls' audio. Analog fax machines and overhead paging systems can often be integrated this way.
